The Oktopus Tattoo was conceived in 2009 when we (Morten and Jorn) were contemplating the association between body tattoos, traveling the seas and the newly launched Oktopus family. The idea of having the tattoo on the watch instead of your body was born. Following multiple conversations with Henning Jorgensen of world-famous Royal Tattoo in Denmark, we agreed to create an Octopus drawing/tattoo that could wrap around the case.
As Henning created the drawing, we spoke to our team in Switzerland about how to get it onto the case, which facets could be engraved and which not. As an added detail we adorned the hands with illusions of tentacle suction cups in orange. The result was, we thought, extraordinary.
Inside a beautiful Frederic Piguet calibre 1150.4, 3Hz/21,600 bph with 100 hours power reserve (double barrel) gives life to the Oktopus. The piece was originally made together with Svend Andersen of Andersen Geneve. Coincidently when we recently visited Andersen Geneve, they had surprisingly found a complete Oktopus Tattoo in their stock dating back from 2009, and we thought an example of this is the perfect piece to put on our Christmas auction.
The watch, being fifteen years old, has only ever been used by the Founders Morten and Jorn. It shows almost no wear and only has a few scratches around 9 o’clock on the case probably from attaching one of the original instruments for diving.
